Mutur Beltz @ 2018

She shows concern for the territory; from the environmental crisis to the nostalgia caused by the loss of roots.

She currently resides between the Karrantza Valley and the Old Port of Algorta (Bizkaia), where she co-founded the Mutur Beltz project with Joseba Edesa. From her role as an individual entrepreneur at Mutur Beltz – Sorgin Baserria, she develops work that encompasses artistic creation, cultural management and design, as well as research and development (R&D) of the wool from the Mutur Beltz Carranzana sheep, a native breed in danger of extinction. This initiative seeks to revitalize the local bioeconomy and is intertwined with her artistic practice, renewing crafts based on traditional techniques adapted to contemporary challenges.

Trained in Fine Arts in Málaga, Valencia, Iceland, Vancouver and the Basque Country, she has enjoyed scholarships and residencies in centers such as Arteleku (San Sebastián), Marlouflims (Bordeaux, France), MA Studio (Beijing, China), The Banff Centre (Canada), Gullkistan (Iceland), BilbaoArte Foundation, Shedding the Skin (Linz, Austria), Ming Studio (Boise, USA) and Djúpavík Art Factory (Iceland).

Her work has been shared in workshops, talks and exhibitions in different countries, and in recent years she has been part of international projects such as the Contextile Textile Art Biennial (Guimarães, Portugal) and the collective Moving Hands, Weaving Futures (Djúpavík Art Factory, Iceland).

In recognition of her career, she has received the National Craft Entrepreneurship Award (2024), for promoting an innovative model that connects crafts, sustainability and territory; the Elkarlan Award from the Basque Government (2024), for promoting community cooperation and social innovation in rural areas; the First Unicaja Foundation Award in Tapestries and Textiles (2024); the Materia Prima Award from Don Producto (2025), for her ability to transform a local resource into cultural and economic innovation; and the Karrantza Naturala Award (2025), for her contribution to the cultural, economic and symbolic sustenance of a valley that resists.
